Mountain Mint on the NY High Line.

Another plant I fell in love with this year is Mountain Mint or Pycanthemum muticum.  Yes because it is a native.  Yes because it has great foliage.  Yes because it is fragrant.  But mostly because my planting idol, Piet Oudolf, used it on the High Line.  And it looked fantastic.  And I saw it in a lot of cool gardens that I admire.  So it's also showing up in my designs for 2010 .but I also need to find a spot for it in my yard.  What will have to go?  I have the whole winter to think about which plant is not worthy anymore.  Do you have a few of those?

I love this mint. I call it Canadian Mint … good to know it is call Mountain Mint. It has a wonderful fragrance and the foliage is just beautiful! It is also a good cut flower.

I wonder why it is called Canadian Mint? Perhaps it can sustain a Zone 5?

I love all the High Line pictures. Early this summer I spent a week in Manhattan visiting a friend right after the first section opened and I ended up going there ecery afternoon and took over a hundred pictures of all the cool plant combinations
